Good times and bad times

Welcome to the first posting for my new Ask the Pastor blog. Here I will propose questions or take them from you. My hope is that we can have, online, what we have at worship when I hold Ask the Pastor sermons.

This week’s questions:
1. When has God seemed closer, in good times or in bad? Why?
2. Are these the hardest times you’ve lived in?

Click on "comments" below to add your response, or read what others have experienced. If you have a question that you would like to see in a future posting, please contact me via e-mail.

  1. I think about God more when times are bad. It is sad to say but it is true for me. When I am having hard times I relay on God to get me though them and I pray to him and he helps me. When times are good I do pray and he is there for me but it is not the same somehow? Pete Mogren

  2. I think it's both really good times and really bad times when I think more about God. When life is amazingly good, I am so thankful that I can't help but pray my thanks over and over. When things are bad, however, I look more to God for comfort and strength...and I try harder to listen for his voice. Both extremes make me realize God's presence because I know I am not capable of doing anything alone. Shari H.

  3. I think that God is always present (good times and bad). When times are good, our lives are full and our minds are busy. Often too busy to be open to God. When times are bad, we tend to take a step back and quite our minds and our lives and it is in those quite moments that we see God still standing behind us. I think that it is important to know that God is always present - smiling at our joy and crying in our sorrow. Did you all notice the lightness in the air on Tuesday? Even though times are bad, the joy of God transcends all - and together we were all smiling!
